Approach and anchoring

Approach in the Baie de Cancale watching for the large tidal range typical of the Bay of Saint-Malo. Pick up a buoy on sand bottom. Shelter from NW through W to SW, exposed to easterly winds from the bay. Strong tidal streams run through the moorings and set boats rolling and snatching as they swing, even with the wind and swell down, and a swell works in on the flood.

Practical

No services on the buoys, and only two of them are for visitors off Port-Picain. Port-Picain slipway 0.2 nm west for landing the tender. Port de Cancale 1.1 nm south for shops, restaurants and the fish market. A bus stop a short walk up the road runs to Cancale and Saint-Malo.

Ashore

Oyster beds of Cancale visible at low water from the shore, production area classified for Cancale oysters. Sentier des douaniers GR34 runs along the cliff from the Pointe du Grouin to Cancale, passing above the anchorage.
