Approach and anchoring
Reached from Great South Bay, protected behind the Fire Island barrier. Berths are scarce, with around 17 transient slips that turn over as boats come and go.
Practical
Long-term, visitor and jet-ski berthing beside the ferry terminal. The Bay Walk shops, food markets, cafes and bayfront restaurants run inland from the marina, and tennis and basketball courts sit next to the ferry dock.
Ashore
The Atlantic surf beach is a few minutes' walk across the island. Ocean Beach has about 600 homes and a compact downtown, with the ferry to Bay Shore taking around 30 minutes across the bay.
