Approach and anchoring

Mill Creek opens off the Patuxent close to Solomons Island. It is reached by a marked approach channel and runs deep, with charted depths of about 8 to 12 feet. The creek bends inland and gives all-round shelter, which makes it the anchorage of choice for boats waiting on weather on the Chesapeake.

Practical

Anchorage only, with good holding and room to swing. Joy Point Marina lies about 0.2 nautical miles to the south-west, and Blackstone Marina is about 1.1 nautical miles to the north-west for fuel, water and shore power.

Ashore

Solomons Island sits a short tender run away across Back Creek. The Calvert Marine Museum, with its restored Drum Point lighthouse, stands on the waterfront, and the village has restaurants and a grocery within walking distance of the public landing.
