Anchorage off the fishing village of La Parguera, officially Villa Parguera, in the municipality of Lajas on the south-west coast of Puerto Rico, beside Isla Magueyes.

Approach and anchoring
Weed and mud bottom. Sheltered from NW through N to NE and from E and W, open to the south. The La Parguera nature reserve, created in 1979 and managed by the DRNA, protects the mangroves, cays and reefs of this coast.
Practical
A jetty and water ashore, with the village restaurants and shops close by. Tour boats to the bioluminescent bay and the cays leave from the village waterfront.
Ashore
Isla Magueyes, an island of 7 ha just off the village, houses the marine station of the University of Puerto Rico. The reef wall off La Parguera, about 20 miles long, draws divers from across the island.
History
La Parguera was first settled as a fishing village in 1825 and takes its name from the pargo, the red snapper. Tourism took over in the twentieth century, with the Parador Villa Parguera opening in the 1960s.
