Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access by the village of Lacanau-Ville on the east shore of the lake. Max draught 0.7 metres, shoal-draught boats and dinghies only. Follow the entrance marks closely and lift the outboard a little, as the approach is very shallow. No tide. Westerly winds cross the open lake fetch.
Practical
Shallow berths for small craft, with no harbour office and no visitor space, and calls on VHF 9 may go unanswered. Hourtin-Carcans lake harbour is 12.2 NM to the N and the Arcachon Bay oyster port of Andernos 14.1 NM to the S across country.
Ashore
Lacanau-Océan surf beach lies 14 km west by road on the Atlantic coast. The lake is surrounded by pine forest with marked cycle paths along the Médoc Atlantic véloroute.
