Approach and anchoring

Approach from the east or south, keeping clear of the ferry route to Porquerolles which runs between the mainland pier and the island. Bottom is eelgrass only and holding is variable, while anchoring on posidonia is regulated in this sector. The mooring buoys off the point are private and not open to visitors, so plan to anchor clear of them on a sand patch. Sheltered from NW through N to W winds, exposed to the east and south.

Practical

Port Auguier 0.2 NM to the west for a small dock and limited services. Port du Niel 1.1 NM to the north-west. Ferry terminal for Porquerolles on the spit, daily crossings year round operated by TLV-TVM, with the first departures around 06:00, so expect wash from early morning.

Ashore

Fort de la Tour Fondue dates from the reign of Richelieu, built in 1634 to guard the Giens roadstead. Double tombolo of Giens with salt pans between the two beaches, a flamingo nesting site. GR 51 coastal path runs along the peninsula.
