Approach and anchoring
Entry through a buoyed channel that dries at low water. Sand bottom, shelter on all eight sectors once inside the estuary. 300 moorings managed by the port, and the harbour signs anchoring as forbidden. The moorings are small and hold poorly, one boat pulled its mooring out of the sand overnight. Seals are often seen around the boats. VHF 9. Tidal gate at the lock of Dives-Cabourg-Houlgate, 0.3 NM SW.
Practical
Water available on the pontoons, and a mooring costs around 20 to 30 euros a night. A seasonal shuttle to the moorings is advertised but does not always run, so landing can be awkward; take the dinghy into the harbour while the lock is open, or to the pontoon under the bridge, which stays reachable at low water. Full services at Dives-Cabourg-Houlgate marina just upstream. CN Franceville at 5.2 NM west for a smaller alternative.
Ashore
Houlgate beach and seafront villas of the Belle Époque at 1 km. Cabourg and the Grand Hôtel associated with Marcel Proust at 2 km west. Église Notre-Dame de Dives, 14th to 16th century, records the names of William the Conqueror's companions at Hastings in 1066.
