Anchorage off the Île des Hébihens in the bay of Lancieux, western approach to the Rance estuary, with sand and rock patches on the bottom.

Approach and anchoring

Sheltered from NW through N to SW, exposed to the east and SE. Strong tidal range up to 13 metres at springs, so plan the approach on a rising tide. Rocks dry extensively around the island at low water, and a rock off the east end of the beach uncovers at big coefficients; use SHOM chart 7129 to pick a lane. Some mooring buoys are laid off the island. Anchor between the island and the mainland in 4 to 8 metres at half tide, choosing sand clear of the weed patches.

Practical

No services on the island. Port du Châtelet 1.4 NM south at Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer dries, and Saint-Briac marina 1.8 NM east has visitor berths, water and showers.

Ashore

The island is privately owned but walking around the foreshore is allowed at low water, though dogs are no longer permitted on the island. A sixteenth century tower stands on the summit, built in 1596 as part of the coastal defence of Saint-Malo. Sables-d'Or-les-Pins beach is 3 km along the coast path to the west.
