Approach and anchoring

The Étang de Berre connects to the Mediterranean via the Canal de Caronte at Martigues. Horizon Marine sits on the south shore of the lagoon. Maximum draught 3 m at the pontoons, but depths are uneven and a 2.5 m keel has touched soft mud at some berths, so ask where to lie. Nautic Club Médéen lies 0,1 nm north and CNM Martigues 2,5 nm west. Wind acceleration from the mistral is significant across the étang.

Practical

70 berths on pontoons with water and power. The yard is geared to haul-out, dry storage and overwintering, with cradle berths and competitive winter packages, and handling has a good name. A shared crew room has an equipped kitchen. Marseille airport is close by, and buses to Marseille and Martigues run from stops about 15 minutes on foot. No shops or restaurants in La Mède itself; provision at Châteauneuf-les-Martigues or Martigues, the latter about 25 minutes by bike.

Ashore

Chaîne de l'Estaque hiking trails start from the Jaï beach 2 km south, dune strip separating the étang from the Mediterranean. Martigues old town and the Miroir aux Oiseaux canal district 4 km west, painted by Félix Ziem in the late 19th century.
