Small freshwater harbour on the Canal Saint-Louis, in the Rhône delta west of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, Camargue. It is private, owned by the Salins du Midi, and not open to visiting boats.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Gulf of Fos through the Saint-Louis lock and the canal running west. No tide. The entrance is dangerous, obstructed by boulders that have rolled off the groynes, and carries less than 1 m at the mouth. Low speed required on the canal. Shelter against mistral from the surrounding banks, but the channel funnels gusts.
Practical
The harbour is private and the warden does not allow visiting boats to enter. No fuel pump on site. Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône town centre lies about 6 nm east by water, with fuel, chandlers and shops.
Ashore
Camargue Regional Nature Park starts on the north bank. Tour du Valat biological station and flamingo lagoons lie within a 10 km drive. Beach of Napoleon at the Rhône mouth is about 7 km by road.
