Approach and anchoring

Approach from offshore to the entrance of Port-la-Vie, keeping the red and green channel marks close to starboard and port. The anchorage lies just outside the harbour, sheltered from N, NE, E and SE winds. Exposed to the prevailing westerlies and to Atlantic swell.

Practical

Mud bottom, good holding. No services at anchor. The estuary here is used mainly by local craft and is little suited to visitors. Port-la-Vie marina 0.3 NM SW for fuel, water, electricity and all services. St Hilaire quay 0.3 NM west. Waiting anchorage before entering the marina or the fishing harbour.

Ashore

Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie town with a covered market, fish auction and shops within 500 m of the marina. Grande Plage sandy beach north of the harbour entrance. SNCF station on the line to Nantes.
