Approach and anchoring

Approach from seaward on the Tyrrhenian side of Corsica. The bottom shelves very gently, so anchor 300 to 400 m off the beach in 3.5 to 5 m on sand with good holding, and favour the southern part as the depth rises quickly to the north. Sheltered from NW through N to W, fully exposed to the east, and a swell often works in at night even in calm weather. Leave at the first sign of a libeccio veering east.

Practical

No facilities on the beach. Nearest harbours are Port Taverna 14.5 NM N and Solenzara 15.7 NM SW, both with fuel, water and provisioning.

Ashore

The Bounty beach restaurant fronts the anchorage, and the Président wine cooperative is about 5 minutes on foot. Étang d'Urbino inland is a classified Natura 2000 lagoon with oyster and mussel farming. The Roman site of Aléria, founded by Greek colonists in the 6th century BC, lies a few kilometres to the north with a museum inside the Fort de Matra.
