Approach and anchoring
Pick up one of the 6 buoys. The bottom is rock so anchoring is restricted under the reserve rules. The coves face east and are sheltered from W through SW and S to SE winds. Leave in any easterly breeze. No anchoring is permitted on the protected zones marked by yellow buoys.
Practical
No services on the buoys. Banyuls-sur-Mer harbour is 0.7 nm to the W for water, fuel, showers and shops. Port de Cerbère lies 2.4 nm to the S.
Ashore
The Réserve Naturelle Marine de Cerbère-Banyuls was created in 1974 and covers 650 hectares, the first marine reserve in mainland France. Laboratoire Arago and its Biodiversarium aquarium are on the Banyuls seafront, about 1 km from the coves. The GR 10 coastal path passes above the cliffs.
