Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchoring is forbidden inside the Parc national de Port-Cros. There is a single buoy, and it is meant for a daytime dive or swim stop with someone left aboard, not for the night; anchoring is banned from 2000 to 0800 and overnight stays are not allowed. Exposed to N and NE winds including the mistral. Village and harbour of Port-Cros 0.4 NM to the SW for shelter.
Practical
No services on the buoy. Fresh water, fuel and shops at the village of Port-Cros 0.4 NM SW. Bring rubbish back aboard, as required inside the national park.
Ashore
The Sentier Sous-Marin de la Palud runs from the beach, a marked underwater trail of six buoys set up by the national park, accessible with mask and snorkel, with information plaques on posidonia meadows and Mediterranean fish. Dinghies land at a wooden pontoon, and the bay is about a 30 minute walk from Port-Cros village. Footpaths climb to Fort de l'Estissac above the bay.
History
Port-Cros became a national park in 1963, the first marine national park in Europe, covering the island and surrounding waters.
