Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the west via the Raz de Sein, keeping clear of the Gamelle rocks marked by a west cardinal. The bay is open to the south and south-east. Sheltered from the NW and N, though a W or SW swell can work in and make it rolly. Anchor on sand east of the mooring field for good holding, clear of the rocky patch near La Petite Gamelle, as unmarked cross-chains link the buoys. VHF 9 for Audierne. Low water reduces depths quickly on the inner bay.
Practical
Many buoys are now held by annual subscribers, so a visitor buoy may not be free; when one is, it costs about 15 euros a night. Order bread and croissants the evening before and the agents deliver to the boat in the morning, cash, around 2 euros a baguette; they also run a water-taxi. Dinghy landing at the Sainte-Évette slipway. Audierne harbour lies 1 NM NE with fuel, water and showers; Pors Poulhan 3.7 NM E is a fallback.
Ashore
Coastal path GR 34 runs along the cliffs from the slipway north to Audierne in under 3 km, and south towards the Pointe de Lervily. Small shop and bakery in Audierne. Boats for the Île de Sein leave from Sainte-Évette pier daily in season.
