The western Lake Erie archipelago, an hour from Sandusky: Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island, the weekend party with moorings for 500 boats, quieter Kelleys Island, Middle Bass and its vineyards, Catawba and Marblehead on the mainland. The shallowest of the Great Lakes, 10 metres on average, with a short, choppy sea from 15 knots of wind.
