Key West backcountry and the Marquesas

11 lieux · Florida Keys

West of Big Pine, the bay side of the Lower Keys belongs to the Key West National Wildlife Refuge, set up in 1908: the Content Keys, Johnston Key and the Snipe Keys, reached by boat only, with no camping. Key Lois on the ocean side, then Stock Island and its 288 slips one bridge from Key West, Key West Bight, the city marina, and Wisteria Island, where over a hundred boats lie in the stream. The Marquesas are 25 miles west: in Mooney Harbor, no motors within 300 feet of the three western islets. The Dry Tortugas, 70 miles further, require a free boater registration at the Garden Key dock.
