Anchorage off the village of Tenakee Springs on the south shore of Tenakee Inlet, east side of Chichagof Island, Alaska.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached by water through Tenakee Inlet, which runs roughly 26 miles inland. Anchor off the village in rock and weed, holding can be uncertain, so set the anchor well. Shelter is from the north and north-east only, with the inlet open to the east. Swanson Dock lies 26 miles to the north.
Ashore
The village hot springs feed a bathhouse beside Tenakee Market, in the middle of the settlement a short tender ride away. Logging trails behind the village are open to walkers and cyclists. A local ordinance bars cars, so the place moves on foot or by bike.
Story
Tenakee Inlet draws large salmon runs each summer, and humpback whales are regularly seen bubble-net feeding in the inlet, a cooperative hunting behaviour particular to this part of Alaska.
