Guide
Approach and anchoring
A well-buoyed channel leads into the bay. Anchor at the western end when no easterly wind is expected; the bay opens to the SE. Sand bottom. Take care of the shoals and rocks off Malone Bay to the west.
Practical
A small National Park Service dock serves cruising boats; no road and no marina on the island. Grand Portage Marina on the Minnesota mainland is 28 nm to the west. Carry full provisions and check NPS dock and permit rules before arrival.
Ashore
A short walk ashore passes several disused commercial fishing homesteads. The bay is a known feeding area for moose.
