Approach and anchoring
Set in a seven-acre safe-harbour basin off U.S. Highway 61. Basin depth runs from 8 feet to over 30 feet. Two launch ramps with a 5-foot minimum depth at the ramp ends. VHF channel 16 for harbour calls.
Practical
About 108 berths for vessels up to 100 feet, split between seasonal and transient. Fresh water and 110 and 240 volt shore power at the berths, dock boxes, pumpout, Valvtect petrol and diesel. Heads, showers, laundry and a limited ship's store. Owned by the Minnesota DNR and run by the City of Silver Bay.
History
Silver Bay Marina opened in August 1999 as the first marina on the North Shore of Lake Superior, part of the state's small-craft harbour system built to give boaters shelter along an exposed coast.
