Approach and anchoring

Reached only by canal navigation. Anchoring is prohibited; mooring only at the public quay or at the lock approach. Ecluse de Puicheric is a double lock; opening hours follow the VNF canal schedule.

Practical

Public quay on the west bank, bollards and limited water point. Port La Fabrique 1.9 nautical miles NE and Homps 4.7 nautical miles NE for fuel and chandlery.

Ashore

Village of Puicheric with a 12th century castle documented during the Albigensian Crusade, rebuilt in the 14th and 17th centuries. Romanesque church of Saint-Etienne in the village core. Minervois AOC vineyards run up to the canal banks.

History

The reach between Marseillette and Homps is part of the original 1681 Riquet canal, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. The plane trees along this section are progressively replaced due to canker stain disease.
