Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Mediterranean through the Canal de Caronte via Martigues. Étang de Berre is a closed brackish lagoon, fetch can build a short steep sea under the mistral from the north-west. No tide.
Practical
Thirty-six berths for small craft and day boats. Limited visitor capacity. Basic services. Larger marinas and boatyards within the étang for fuel, haulout and repairs.
Ashore
Southern shore of the Étang de Berre, with the industrial and historic skyline of Martigues, la Venise Provençale, to the west. Musée Ziem in Martigues, dedicated to the Provençal painter Félix Ziem, at the head of the Canal Saint-Sébastien.
