Approach and anchoring
Sabine Lake is a 70,000 acre body of water linked to the Gulf of Mexico through the Sabine Pass jetties about 10 miles to the south. Pleasure Island is bordered by the lake and the Sabine Neches Intracoastal Waterway. The club house sits next to the city-run Pleasure Island Marina.
Practical
Member sailing club, founded 1965, with a youth sailing programme. The adjacent Pleasure Island Marina holds around 300 floating berths for boats from 30 to 50 feet and is owned and run by the City of Port Arthur.
History
The Port Arthur Yacht Club was founded in 1965 and has long run sailing instruction for local youngsters on Sabine Lake.
