Approach and anchoring
Leave the main ship channel near green buoy 15 and work past the shoals off Pelican Island into the lagoon. Sand bottom with good holding in roughly 3 to 4 m. Barriers ring the bay, giving all-round shelter from sea, though it is not a no-wake zone.
Practical
Dauphin Island Marina is 1.2 nm N for fuel, berths and provisions. Turner Marine lies 19.5 nm N up Mobile Bay.
Ashore
Pelican Island is a low sand spit fronting the Gulf and is a known spot for fishing and bird life. Dauphin Island village, with shops and the public beach, is a short run N from the anchorage.
