Approach and anchoring
Access via the Canal latéral à la Marne at Freycinet gauge. Draught 1.80 m, air draught 3.50 m. Locks operated by VNF during working hours. Mooring on a grass-backed concrete quay with rings.
Practical
Four berths. No fuel, no electricity borne reported. Water from a tap at the quay when open. Nearest bread and grocery in Pogny at 2 km by the towpath, wider services at Châlons-en-Champagne 15 km upstream.
Ashore
Towpath suitable for walking and cycling along the canal, chalk plains of the Champagne crayeuse either side. Vineyard villages of the Côte des Blancs begin at Vertus, 20 km north.
History
The Canal latéral à la Marne, opened in 1845, doubled the capricious Marne river between Vitry-le-François and Dizy. This middle reach was kept busy through the 1960s by freight of sugar beet, cereals and Champagne chalk.
