Approach and anchoring
The easiest anchorages lie on the east side of the harbour, reached through two inlets carrying about 5 to 7 feet. A deeper outside anchorage on the west side holds around 10 feet close to shore. Pick your way in carefully on a rising tide.
Practical
No facilities. Sand bottom, shelter from N and NE. Nearest fuel and provisions are at A & B Marina and Galleon Marina, both about 20 miles east in Key West.
Ashore
The Marquesas Keys sit within Key West National Wildlife Refuge. A 300-foot no-motor zone protects the three smallest islands on the western side, and an idle-speed zone covers the southwest tidal creek. Rays, sharks, sea turtles and nesting birds are common.
Story
The Marquesas are often described as the only atoll-shaped formation in the continental United States, a near-circular ring of mangrove keys.
