Small natural harbour on the Cleveland Peninsula, with Ernest Sound to the north and Clarence Strait to the west, about 50 miles south of Wrangell.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the harbour on a bottom of rock and mud. The State of Alaska maintains a public float for visiting and local boats; when it is full, anchor in the narrow arm to the north-east. Sheltered from most directions, the harbour has long served salmon trollers riding out blows in Clarence Strait.
Ashore
The community counts about seven year-round residents, more in summer. A post office, walking trails and a few log cabins stand around the shore. The harbour is a common halfway stop for boats running between Ketchikan and Wrangell.
History
The name comes from the Chinook word chuck, meaning an inlet that fills on the tide. Meyers Chuck grew as a fishing settlement and salmon trollers used it as a storm refuge off Clarence Strait.
