Guide
Approach and anchoring
Lies just off the ICW at marker 87. Dredging has brought the approach channel and the 50 ft berths to 6.5 ft. The basin is fully enclosed and shelters cruising vessels up to 100 ft.
Practical
About 20 transient berths on concrete floating docks with 30 and 50 amp power, plus a 100 ft T-head with 100 amp service. Free pump-out at each berth. A marina building ashore has showers, restrooms and laundry. Daily dockage charged per foot.
Ashore
Marineland Dolphin Adventure, run by Georgia Aquarium, is alongside the marina. The University of Florida's Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience occupies the former Marineland administration building nearby. The beaches of Marineland sit just across coastal road A1A.
History
Marineland opened on 23 June 1938 as Marine Studios, billed as the world's first oceanarium. It was conceived as an underwater film studio, its tanks fitted with glass portholes for cameras. Creature from the Black Lagoon was filmed here in the 1950s.
