Working fuel dock and visitor pontoon on Jeremy Creek in McClellanville, South Carolina, shared with the village shrimp fleet.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Half a mile off the ICW at mile marker 430, up Jeremy Creek, one of the shallower stretches of the South Carolina ICW. The creek carries the local shrimp trawlers, so deeper water lies in the marked channel. Tidal, with a range of about 1.5 metres along this coast.
Practical
About 60 metres of floating dock for transients, with diesel and petrol, ice, water, showers, laundry and Wi-Fi. The shrimp fleet ties up alongside the same dock. Limited provisions in the village, larger supermarkets at Mount Pleasant 30 miles south by road.
Ashore
The village of McClellanville sits under live oaks hung with Spanish moss, a few minutes' walk from the dock. The Village Museum on Pinckney Street covers the local shrimping and timber history. Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, with 22 NM of barrier islands and rookeries, is accessed from McClellanville landings.
History
Leland Oil began as a commercial fuel dock supplying the McClellanville shrimping fleet and is still owned by the Leland family. In 2012 they rebuilt the pilings and added a long floating dock for visiting yachts, while continuing to fuel the shrimpers that share the harbour.
