Sheltered lagoon off the Intracoastal Waterway at Boca Raton, Florida, with anchoring on a sand bottom.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter from the ICW north of flashing green 65 and anchor in around 2.5 metres of water, north and east of the charted shoals. Holding in sand is generally good and the lake is protected from all directions. The mid-lake sandbar is shallow and busy with boats at weekends.
Practical
Anchoring is free. Florida law prohibits anchoring within 150 feet of any marina or launching facility. The lake fills with rafted boats on summer weekends, so the quieter water lies at the deeper north end.
Ashore
Silver Palm Park, about 0.3 nautical miles to the north-west, has a public boat ramp and a dinghy landing. Red Reef Park and Spanish River Park, on the ocean front nearby, offer guarded beaches, a snorkel trail and nature trails.
