Full-service marina of around 100 berths on Lake Superior's North Shore at Knife River, Minnesota, about 16 miles south-west of Two Harbors.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reached from Lake Superior at the mouth of the Knife River. Entrance navigation light number 16495 marks the harbour. A double launch ramp and a roll-in ramp serve the basin, with the fuel berth alongside.

Practical

Around 100 berths, seasonal and transient. Diesel and premium petrol at the fuel berth, pumpout, boat haul-out, repair and winter storage. Heads, a ship's store and a yacht club. Paved and gravel parking for 25 cars and trailers. Restaurant and shops nearby.

Ashore

A swimming beach adjoins the marina. The Knife River Heritage and Cultural Centre, set in the former railway depot, covers the village's logging and commercial fishing past. The Gitchi-Gami State Trail for cycling runs along the North Shore from here.

History

Knife River Marina was built in the early 1970s as part of Minnesota's Lake Superior small-craft harbour system, supplying shelter and services along an exposed stretch of coast.
