Approach and anchoring
Approach from Trinity Bay into the mouth of Double Bayou, keeping mid-channel as the entrance shoals at the bar. Four concrete ramps and a courtesy pontoon for trailer launches. Shallow water, draught above 1.2 m not advised. No marked aids at the bayou mouth, local knowledge useful.
Practical
Four full-size boat ramps with a large trailer car park, a courtesy dock, public toilets, a fish-cleaning station and a playground. A small store on Bayshore Road sells fuel, ice and bait. Fully sheltered marinas at Bolivar are 11 NM south-east across Trinity Bay.
Ashore
Oak Island is a fishing community of around 700 residents at the end of FM 1985. The Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, a 138 km2 coastal marsh known for alligators and migrating waterfowl, is 18 km north-east. Anahuac town, 22 km north, holds the Texas Gatorfest each September.
