Approach and anchoring
Base on the navigable section of the Charente at Pont de Sireuil. Maximum draught around 2 m. Écluse de Sireuil immediately downstream, operated by the Département de la Charente, opening hours seasonal. No tide, steady river flow. Next refuge downstream is Saintes at 28.7 nm west.
Practical
Fleet of self-drive cabin cruisers for 2 to 10 people, no licence required. Base open 7 days a week in season, 8:30 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 18:30. Shops in Sireuil village at 600 m: bakery, bar, grocery. Supermarket in Hiersac at 4 km.
Ashore
GR4 long-distance footpath crosses the Charente at Sireuil. Angoulême old town and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée at 15 km upstream by boat or 18 km by road. Cognac vineyards AOC begin 10 km downstream, with tastings at several houses in Jarnac at 25 km.
History
Inter-Croisières was founded in 1989 by Guy and Sylvette Morisset and has been run by their children Audrey and Alexandre Motta since 2013. The Charente was a working waterway for Cognac trade until the mid twentieth century, using flat-bottomed gabares to carry barrels to Rochefort.
