Approach and anchoring
Reached from the south via the Canal des Houillères de la Sarre, 65 km from its junction with the Marne-Rhine canal. Grosbliederstroff marks the end of the French canalised section, where navigation continues on the German Saar under SaarSB river regulations. Maximum draught 1.5 m on the approach.
Practical
A single pontoon, suited to one hire boat or barge at a time. No harbour office. Water point in the village. Shops, bakery and bars in Grosbliederstroff, 300 m from the quay, with a supermarket across the bridge in German Kleinblittersdorf.
Ashore
The Sarre greenway, part of the EuroVelo 5 Via Romea Francigena, passes the quay and runs 12 km upstream to Sarreguemines. The footbridge over the Sarre links directly to Kleinblittersdorf in the Saarland, served by tramline S1 to Saarbrücken. The river Blies confluence and the Gallo-Roman site at Bliesbruck are 18 km east by road.
