Approach and anchoring

Enter Grand Haven harbour off Lake Michigan between the breakwaters, the south pier carrying the red lighthouse. Hold the buoyed channel up the Grand River to the marina, which sits by Chinook Pier on the south bank. Spring Lake also opens upriver.

Practical

Of the 57 berths, 54 take transient boats, the rest seasonal charter and commercial craft. Shore power, fresh water, ice, heads and showers on the docks. Transient bookings run through the Michigan DNR reservation system. Downtown shops and restaurants are within walking distance.

Ashore

The 1.5 mile Grand River boardwalk runs from the marina out to the red pier lighthouse and the Lake Michigan beach. The Grand Haven Musical Fountain plays nightly across the river from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Downtown shops sit one block back from the docks.

History

Grand Haven has been designated Coast Guard City USA since 1967 and hosts the annual Coast Guard Festival in late July, which draws over 300,000 visitors with a parade of ships and fireworks over the harbour.
