Guide
Approach and anchoring
The bay is roughly five miles wide. The southern approach has below-water rocks extending up to 0.6 miles off Foggy Point, while the northern approach carries drying and below-water rocks up to 0.7 miles off the De Long Islands. Carry NOAA chart 17434, which includes a Foggy Bay inset. Holding is on rock and mud.
Practical
No facilities. A protected pocket inside the bay gives all-round shelter and is used as a place to lie over before or after crossing Dixon Entrance. Nearest provisions and fuel are at Ketchikan.
Story
The bay was named in 1880 by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, the name taken from nearby Foggy Point.
