Everglades National Park's only marina, at the southern tip of mainland Florida where Florida Bay meets the freshwater backcountry, administratively in Homestead.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Flamingo sits between Florida Bay to the south and Whitewater Bay inland by way of the Buttonwood Canal. Florida Bay averages about 3 ft deep, with unmarked basins, mudbanks and seagrass flats between winding channels: a chart and local knowledge are needed. The nearest other refuges, Sea Bird Marina and Caloosa Cove Marina, lie roughly 19 to 20 nm to the south and south-east.
Practical
Three berths plus slips and ramps, run by Everglades Guest Services and open year round. The fuel dock carries petrol and clear diesel during store hours, 7am to 7pm November to April, 8am to 6pm May to October. Electric and water hook-ups are available. Houseboats, canoes and kayaks can be hired on site.
Ashore
The Guy Bradley Visitor Center stands by the marina. Manatees use the marina basin and American crocodiles haul out near the boat ramps and along the Buttonwood Canal. Florida Bay and the Ten Thousand Islands open out from here for wildlife watching.
