Bay indenting the eastern shore of Frederick Sound, on the north-east side of Cape Fanshaw in the Alexander Archipelago, about 83 miles south of Juneau.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from Frederick Sound, with South Passage linking the bay to Cleveland Passage. Anchor near the head on the south-east side, roughly 600 yards offshore and half a mile south-west of Whitney Island, in 12 to 15 fathoms.
Practical
An anchorage only, with no facilities ashore. Sand and shell bottom gives good holding. Sheltered from north-east and south-east winds, exposed to the west across the sound.
Story
Frederick Sound off Cape Fanshaw is a summer feeding ground for humpback whales and orcas, often seen from boats at anchor.
