- Harbour
Public marina on the Elochoman Slough at Cathlamet, north bank of the lower Columbia River around river mile 38, in Wahkiakum County.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter from the Columbia main channel into the slough at Cathlamet. Approach is straightforward in daylight but the slough is narrow with mud banks on either side. Watch the strong river current at flood and ebb when manoeuvring on to the visitor pontoons.
Practical
299 berths, petrol and diesel at the fuel berth, pump-out, launch ramp, heads, showers and laundry. On-site cabins, yurts and RV hook-ups. River Mile 38 Brewery on the marina grounds. Daily rates run from about 15 USD for boats under 20 ft to 37 USD for 60 ft.
Ashore
Cathlamet town centre is a short walk uphill with grocery, café and the Wahkiakum County Historical Museum. The Wahkiakum County ferry to Westport, Oregon, leaves from Puget Island just across the bridge and is the only interstate ferry on the lower Columbia.
History
Cathlamet is named after the Kathlamet band of the Chinook people. The riverside town developed as a 19th century logging and salmon cannery centre and retains its grid of streets running parallel to the river.
