Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchor in the western part of the harbour on a sand bottom; the eastern part is foul. Holding is reported poor and the bight gives shelter only in southerly weather. In strong north-west winds heavy swell sweeps around Harris Point into the harbour, making the anchorage unsafe.
Practical
There is no pier or facility. Visitors land by tender on the beach and may hike up Nidever Canyon to the ranger station. Cuyler Harbor and Tyler Bight are the only authorised overnight anchorages at the island.
Ashore
A white sand beach runs about two miles within the bight, often shared with elephant seals. A footpath climbs Nidever Canyon to the ranger station. Cardwell Point and Point Bennett offer pinniped viewing but require a ranger escort owing to unexploded ordnance.
