Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south over gently shelving sand, watching for fishing nets and pot markers off the town. Anchor beyond the line of yellow buoys about 300 m off, in 5 to 6 m on sand and silt with good holding. Shelter from NW, N and NE; fully exposed from W through S to E and untenable in a mistral swell or sirocco. A cross swell sets in even in light wind, and passing trip boats throw wash, so nights can be rolly. Port Gardian lies 0.2 NM NE for refuge, the town quay 1.4 NM NW.

Practical

No services at anchor. The dinghy lands easily inside Port Gardian to reach the town, or at a beach paillote. All services are in the town and at Port Gardian marina 0.2 NM NE.

Ashore

Église fortifiée des Saintes-Maries, 12th century, with the crypt of Sainte Sara venerated by the Roma pilgrimage on 24 and 25 May. The town is the capital of the Camargue Regional Nature Park; Parc ornithologique du Pont de Gau 4 km north for flamingos and herons.
