Revin
- Maximum draught
- 5 ft
River halt on the Meuse in the Ardennes, inside a pronounced double meander of the river known as the boucles de Revin, between Charleville-Mézières and Givet.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached via the Meuse canalised waterway, lock system between Charleville-Mézières and the Belgian border. Maximum draught about 1.8 m at the quay, though the depth varies with the season and river level and can be less, so a deeper-draught boat may have to feel its way in. The town quay is on the right bank in the southern loop of the meander.
Practical
Pontoon with water and electricity, capitainerie seasonal. Around 13 euros a night for an 11 metre yacht, water and electricity included. A large supermarket 300 m away sells fuel as well as provisions. Bakeries and the railway station are within walking distance of the quay.
Ashore
Mont Malgré-Tout rises above the town at 466 m with a panoramic viewpoint over the meander. Waymarked forest walks in the Ardennes Forest regional natural park. The Voie Verte Trans-Ardennes cycle route follows the Meuse past the quay for 130 km between Givet and Mouzon.
History
Revin was a centre of metalworking and hardware factories from the nineteenth century onwards, part of the Vallée de la Meuse industrial belt. The town hall is set in the former Maison espagnole, a timber-framed building dated to 1634.
