Anchorage on the south shore of Kachemak Bay, on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, roughly 28 nautical miles east of Homer.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach across Kachemak Bay from Homer, with no marked channel. The bottom is rock and mud, so set the anchor with care and check the hold. Sheltered from northerly and easterly winds and from the south and south-east, but open to the west.
Ashore
The shore lies within Kachemak Bay State Park, the first state park designated in Alaska, with more than 80 miles of trails and protected coves reached only by boat or float plane.
History
Quartz veins run through the bedrock of the Kachemak region, formed by igneous intrusions that also left gold and silver lodes.
