Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from seaward to a narrow entrance between two jetties. It turns awkward and even dangerous in a strong onshore NW wind against the ebb, with a sporty swell across the entrance, so avoid entering when it blows over about 20 knots onshore; strong gusts and current can push a boat inside. Maximum draught 2.5 m. The outer marina is accessible at low water, with depths at the visitor pontoon C generally 1.8 m or more and over 3 m at its end. VHF 9. In heavy swell the marina surges badly, and a calmer berth can be requested in the inner Bassin Berigny, reached through a gate and bridge that open around high water on request. The marina closes to visitors at times for dredging or events, so check ahead.
Practical
Visitors berth on pontoon C. Water and electricity on the pontoons but no WiFi. A fuel berth takes cards, though foreign cards are sometimes refused. Sanitary blocks are dated and basic, cleaned several times a day. The harbour team speaks English, is reachable on VHF 9, and will take lines. Reckon on high prices, around 50 euros for a 12 m boat and about 70 for 16 m. Boat handling is by crane rather than a travel-lift, and the careening area is public. Shops, bakeries and restaurants are a short walk into town.
Ashore
The Palais Benedictine distillery and its liqueur are the town landmark, with a Saturday market, restaurants and bars along the seafront and a pebble beach five minutes from the pontoons. Chalk cliffs frame the harbour, with a climb up the Belvedere for the view and fresh fish sold straight from the boats at the fish market. Etretat and its arches lie a short way down the coast.
