Approach and anchoring

VHF channel 9. Access only around high water, the harbour dries almost completely with a maximum draught of 0.3 m. Even on a coefficient of 60 there is water about two hours after low water. Approach from the south-east avoiding the rocky plateaus marked by cardinal buoys off the Rhuys coast. Port de Saint-Jacques lies 1.7 NM east and the Lindin boatyard 2.9 NM north in the Morbihan gulf.

117 berths for boats that can take the ground, shallow-draught keelers and centreboarders. The harbour office opens from mid-April. Water on the quay. Shops and restaurants of Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys within walking distance.

Ashore

GR34 coastal path passes above the harbour, with views over the Houat and Hoedic islands on clear days. Saint-Gildas abbey church dating from the 11th century, founded by the Welsh monk Gildas in the 6th century, 1 km inland. Sandy beaches of Port Maria and Grand Mont within 2 km.

History

Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys takes its name from the Breton abbey founded in the 6th century. Peter Abelard served as its abbot in the 12th century, according to his own letters.
