Dry port and boatyard of 240 places on the right bank of the Charente at Soubise, facing Rochefort; the afloat pontoon takes only a handful of boats and dries at low water.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached via the Charente estuary from Fouras and the Pertuis d'Antioche. Tidal river with strong currents on the ebb and flood, plan the approach around slack water. Maximum draught 2 m. The visitor pontoon holds only about six boats and dries at low water on big coefficients, over soft mud. Rochefort lies 2.2 NM upstream to the E.
Practical
This is really a boatyard and dry port rather than a marina, with a boat hoist up to 20 tonnes and hard standing, popular and inexpensive for winter work. Water and electricity on the pontoon, a card-operated fuel pump on a pontoon that also dries, basic sanitary with acceptable showers. Restaurant l'Estran sits by the harbour office, with a supermarket, bakery and bars within 1 mile. A water taxi crosses to Rochefort, 2.2 NM upriver, for shops and the rail station.
