Inland halt of about 20 berths on the Canal latéral à la Garonne in Agen, New Aquitaine.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access by the Canal latéral à la Garonne, which is part of the Canal des Deux Mers route between Bordeaux and Toulouse. The canal allows a maximum draught of 1.80 m and an air draught of 3.50 m under standard bridges. No tidal constraints. Speed limit 8 km/h.
Practical
Around 20 finger-pontoon berths with cleats. This is not a staffed marina, so berth, pay and collect the gate code at the Agen tourist office in town, where overnight, weekly and monthly rates are posted and also shown at the berths. Water and electricity run on 2 euro tokens from a shore machine. Sanitary facilities. Longer unattended stays are straightforward. A laundromat, a Lidl and a Carrefour City lie close by, with a Sunday market and the railway station within walking distance.
Ashore
Pont-canal d'Agen over the Garonne at 1 km west of the halt, a 539 m masonry aqueduct opened in 1843. Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Agen at 600 m, housed in four Renaissance mansions. Cathédrale Saint-Caprais at 700 m, a Romanesque building listed as UNESCO World Heritage on the Santiago de Compostela routes.
