Approach and anchoring

Approach along the Bandol bay from the south. Anchor clear of swimming areas marked by yellow buoys from 15 June to 15 September. The bottom is largely posidonia and clear sand is hard to find; eco-mooring buoys are installed in summer and anchoring is regulated under the Var posidonia decree. Holding on the weed is poor and boats drag in fresh west to south-west winds, so look for a clear sand patch toward the eastern side, where the hold stays firm even in a strong mistral; there is more sand at the northern end but it takes more chop. Protection from NW, N and W, exposed to southerly and easterly winds.

Practical

Port of Bandol 0.3 nm to the west with fuel, water, chandlery, 1,600 berths. Port de la Gorguette 0.8 nm to the SE. Shops, restaurants and the beachfront promenade immediately ashore.

Ashore

Land the tender at the beach by the CNB sailing club or in Bandol harbour. Centre of Bandol within 200 m, covered market hall daily except Monday, morning open-air market Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on allees Jean Moulin. Ile de Bendor, 0.4 nm offshore, reached by shuttle from Bandol every 30 minutes, with two museums created by Paul Ricard in the 1950s.
