Approach and anchoring

Reached by the Canal de la Marne au Rhin between Bar-le-Duc and Toul. Lock sequence managed by VNF. Speed limit 6 km/h in the bief. The basin can be thick with weed. Fuel pump on the quay, one of the few along this stretch.

Practical

Four berths alongside the quay, around 10 euros a night. Diesel available. Water and power from the capitainerie in season, though the supply can be unreliable, with only some electricity meters working and the campsite sanitary block poorly kept. Shops, bakery and restaurants in the town centre within 400 m. SNCF station on the Paris to Strasbourg line at 600 m.

Ashore

Town walk past the Tour Valéran, a keep from the former ducal castle of the Dukes of Bar. Musée d'Art Sacré in the old Notre-Dame-des-Vertus priory. GR 703 towpath walk toward Bar-le-Duc through the Ornain valley.
