Approach and anchoring

Access from the Loire estuary via the dredged navigation channel of the port of Nantes-Saint-Nazaire. Entrance to the basin through a lock gate operated around high water, allowing about 3 m draught at the pontoons. Current in the Loire can reach 2 to 3 kn on the ebb off Le Migron, so time arrival and departure for slack water. Commercial ship traffic in the main channel takes priority, and the reception pontoon is hard to lie against in the wash of passing cargo ships.

Practical

350 berths in total, including dry-stack storage and wet pontoons. Diesel pump, water and electricity on the pontoons, though the electricity is charged dear. Travel lift for launching, boatyard with winter storage where crews can live and work aboard. Restaurant on site, small supermarket at Frossay 3 km by road; without a car the area is awkward to get around.

Ashore

Loire estuary cycle route EuroVelo 6 passes at the basin entrance, linking Saint-Brevin-les-Pins 15 km west to Nantes 40 km east. Land-art trail Estuaire Nantes-Saint-Nazaire with installations at Paimbœuf 1.4 NM west and Lavau-sur-Loire 1.8 NM northeast. Marais de l'Acheneau wetlands start south of the basin.
